How do you play sex dice? What our first round was actually like
I was sent this by Do Me Erotic. Round three was our own fault.
You roll, you read what comes up, you do it. That's the entire rulebook and I'm slightly embarrassed by how long I spent expecting there to be more.
Sex Dice from Do Me Erotic is a set of dice covering actions, body parts and locations. Every roll gives you a random combination. No board, no cards, no scoring, no setup. Instructions come in the box and I can confirm we never opened them.
Things escalated very fast, which sounds like something a brand would write and was just what happened on round three.
What does a round look like?
You roll, you get an action, a body part and a location, and you do it. Then the other person rolls. That's the loop.
The whole thing is designed so there's nothing to learn and nothing to lose, which is why it started working for us within about ninety seconds. I'd expected a warm-up period. There wasn't one.
Do you have to do what it says?
No, and this is the one thing I'd genuinely tell people to sort out before they start.
Reroll anything either of you doesn't want. The dice are a suggestion engine, not an authority. We agreed up front that a reroll needs no explanation from either side, and that single rule is what took all the pressure out of it. Without it I think one of us would have been quietly bracing the whole time.
Where can you play it?
Anywhere private. It's compact and the box is discreet by design, so it works at home, in a hotel, or packed for a weekend.
Fair warning that the location die assumes you've got more than one room. We got a result that our flat could not accommodate and had to take that one as a suggestion rather than an instruction.
How long does a game last?
As long as you want, because there's no ending built in. We played until the dice stopped being the interesting part of the evening, which I'd argue is the game working correctly rather than the game finishing.
Is it good for a first date?
No, and that's not a criticism of it.
It's built for couples including new ones, but it assumes a level of comfort a first date usually hasn't got to. Where I think it's genuinely useful is a few months in, when you're comfortable with each other but haven't quite had the conversation about what either of you actually wants to try.
What if one of you is nervous?
Agree the reroll rule, then use the dice as conversation rather than instruction to begin with. Roll, read it out, and just talk about it.
Plenty of people never get past that stage on the first night and still have a good one. We nearly didn't, and then we did.
Questions I got asked afterwards
How do you play?
Roll, read the combination of action, body part and location, follow the prompt, then swap.
Do you have to do what the dice say?
No. Either person rerolls anything they don't want, no explanation needed. Agree that first.
How many people?
Two. It's a couples game.
Is there a way to win?
No scoring, no ending. You play as long as you want.
